STORY OF THE PICTURE “FLAMING JUNE”

Flaming June, languid beauty in a transparent orange dress, was painted by the esteemed English artist Frederic Leighton in the late 19th century. The painting disappeared shortly thereafter, only to appear again. It appeared back in the early 1960s when it was discovered in a chimney by a worker at a construction site. At that time, the painting was considered unfashionable, the painting could not be stocked at auction. It was acquired shortly thereafter by the Museo de Arte de Ponce of Puerto Rico, where it remains to this day.
